balloon Pictures

We were living in Albuquerque, New Mexico when the first balloon event was held.  We didn't go the first time, but were able to attend in 1972.  Since that time the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta has grown into the largest hot air balloon event in the world with participation limed to 800 balloons.

The balloonn fiesta is reputed to be the most photographed event in the world.  It is special because attendees are allowed to mingle with the balloons and their crews as they launch.  They are not looking on from stands, they are right in among the balloons.  This makes it very special and permits great pictures.

You can be taking pictures from just a few feet away as the crew uses a fan to begin the initial filling of the balloon, when they light the burners, and when they lift off.  You can get pictures of the INSIDE of the balloon as it lifts.  All in all, it's very special.

Walking Rain Gallery

This website displays only a few of our collection of balloon pictures.  At Walking Rain Gallery we have more, as well as many pictures of other subjects.  Clicking links on this site will take you to the balloon category of Walking Rain Gallery.  Once there you can see all of our balloon pictures and order whatever pictures and/or products you would like.  We invite you to look around and see what we have in other categories while you are there.

About us and our balloon pictures

We enjoy photography and use the income from sales of our pictures and products to finance more travel and photography.  However, we find the rights management conditions required by stock photo companies unreasonable.

Our copyright and digital rights management is very simple: you can do anything you want with these images, including using them for commercial products, except claim you have a copyright to the original image.  We retain the right to use the images ourselves in any way we please.  Fair enough?

We have included images on the website which are not large enough to print a 5" x 7" at 300 DPI.  The download for those is free.  We think that is a good way to let customers test our shopping cart and enjoy pictures which are to small for demanding uses.

Techniques & Technology

I got my first camera (a Nikkormat) in 1965 and have been taking pictures ever since.  We took slides for many years and then converted to film.  We finally made the move to digital and are still in the conversion process.  This and related sites are being built by converting our huge collection of negatives to digital, editing them with Photoshop, and building websites based on the pictures and our experiences taking them.  It's a lot of work so it will be a while before these sites can be considered a finished project.  We think there is a lot to enjoy in the meantime through.
